RSS Feeds
RSS
RSS is an XML-based format (using the Resource Description Framework (RDF) - a language for representing information about resources in the World Wide Web) that allows the syndication of lists of hyperlinks, along with other information, or metadata, that helps viewers decide whether they want to follow the link. RSS allows a person's computer to fetch and understand the information, so that all of the lists that person is interested in can be tracked and personalized for them. It is a format that's intended for use by computers on behalf of people, rather than being directly presented to them like a normal web page.
How to Use RSS Feeds?
- Using a program known as a News Aggregator to collect, update and display RSS feeds
- Incorporating RSS feeds into weblogs
News Aggregators (also called news readers) will download and display RSS feeds for you.
There is a range of different news readers available and new versions are appearing all the time. Different news readers work on different operating systems, so you will need to choose one that will work with your computer.
Example News Readers
Newz Crawler
FeedDemon
AwasuNewsfire
NetNewsWire
Bloglines
My Yahoo!
NewsGator
Many aggregators are separate, "stand-alone" programs such as those listed above; other services will let you add RSS feeds to a web page. The Quinn Insurance British Masters Tournament lets you add RSS feeds to your own web page; to make this easy you can click on the rss buttons found on all of our pages.
Adding Our Feed to Your Website
