Lee returns from the Ryder Cup with a bang
“It will help to lift me that I'm the defending champion, it helps I like the golf course and it helps I'm playing an hour from where I live so will have lots of home support,” said Westwood.
“I have got the goal of trying to win the Order of Merit in my sights, and I'm sure after I've got a good night's sleep tonight, an afternoon tee off tomorrow, I'll be ready to go and feeling fresh.”
Fellow Ryder Cup team member Graeme McDowell added: “I'm certainly looking forward to this weekend. I do like this golf course. It's a tournament that I wanted to play. In a funny way, not winning The Ryder Cup last week will probably make it easier to get over it and really obviously put it behind and move on really."
Clarke, another two-time winner on this season’s European Tour International Schedule, is looking forward to a challenging week at The Belfry as he bids for his third European Tour win this season.
“I haven't played too well at The Belfry of late, so hopefully I'll play a little better this week than I have in the past.
“The course was in great shape yesterday and the greens were as good as they have probably ever been here, very fast and quick and certainly don't want to be above the holes. It will be a tough challenge this week.”
Former winner Colin Montgomerie holds fond memories of the Quinn Insurance British Masters and The Belfry: “I've won this before at the Forest of Arden a few years ago, and I enjoy playing The Belfry. I've got good memories here of my Ryder Cup time and I think we all enjoyed playing the golf course. I think it's in good condition and I think that it's good we've got a strong field.”
