Monty and Casey get set for The Quinn Direct British Masters

Thu, 6 Sep 2007 - 05:25 GMT

Colin Montgomerie and Paul Casey will add class and sparkle to The Quinn Direct British Masters later this month at The Belfry.

Monty, the most prolific British winner in European Tour history and one of the most recognisable sportsmen of his generation, has an incredible 31 European Tour titles to his name.  He is the first European golfer ever to play in five successful Ryder Cup teams and was instrumental in securing a European victory at The Belfry in 2002, finishing as top scorer in a memorable event.

Casey is ready to take on The Brabazon
Paul Casey made the best possible start to 2007 when he won the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, his 8th European Tour title. This followed a phenomenal 2006, which saw him shoot a hole in one in the Ryder Cup at The K Club, making him only the fifth golfer ever to do so in Ryder Cup history.

Casey’s achievements were recognised when named 2006 European Tour Player of the Year. He is currently in 12th place on The European Tour Order of Merit.

This year, Monty came out on top at The K Club as victor of the Smurfit Kappa European Open and has also shown impressive displays at the Celtic Manor Wales Open and at The Johnnie Walker Classic in March, finishing in tied 6th place. Monty currently sits at 10th place in The European Tour Order of Merit.

“The Belfry holds great memories for me and I am looking forward to returning there for The Quinn Direct British Masters,” says Montgomerie. “I have enjoyed my golf this year and am looking forward to getting involved with another big tournament.”

Andrew ‘Chubby’ Chandler, Managing Director of promoters International Sports Management said: “Monty personifies European golf and current Tour Player of the Year, Paul Casey, also confirming his attendance just proves what strong contenders there are to win the title this year. They both demonstrate the type of quality talent that The Quinn Direct British Masters is all about.

“With Darren Clarke announcing his attendance just last week, the collection of top golfers set to take on The Brabazon is just fantastic.”

The Quinn Direct British Masters 2007 will be played from 20th – 23rd September 2007, including a Pro-Am day on 19th September.
