ASIAN CONTINGENT GET SET FOR THE QUINN DIRECT BRITISH MASTERS

Mon, 17 Sep 2007 - 05:18 GMT

A quintet of top golfers from across Asia have signed up to play at The Quinn Direct British Masters at The Belfry on Thursday.

Indian trio Jeev Milkha Singh, Jyoti Randhawa and Shiv Kapur, plus Mardan Mamat of Singapore and Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand will represent the Asian continents in a bid to take on The Brabazon for the £1.8 million prize fund and coveted title currently held by Johan Edfors of Sweden.

Singh was the first Indian golfer ever to qualify for The European Tour, following a winning card at the 1997 Qualifying School. Just last year he played in 39 events, securing his first ever European Tour title at The Volvo China Open. Singh finished top of The Asian Tour Order of Merit in 2006.

Randhawa and Jaidee have crossed paths in recent years, notably in the 2006 Malaysian Open when Jaidee defended his 2005 Malaysian Open title (the first Thai ever to win the tournament), by beating Randhawa to 1st place.  Randhawa’s impressive, 2nd place performance at the tournament helped him secure a full European Tour card for the 2006 season.

KAPUR SET TOP PLAY THE BRABAZON THIS WEEK
Kapur is playing his first year on The European Tour in 2007, following success on the Asian Tour in the past two years. Mamat is the first Singaporean to win on The European Tour at the OSIM Singapore Masters, after beating Englishman and defending tournament champion, Nick Dougherty.

Jeev Milkha Singh says: “I am looking forward to The Quinn Direct British Masters; it will be a great test for us all and one which I personally cannot wait to compete in alongside a very talented field of golfers.”

Andrew ‘Chubby’ Chandler, Managing Director of promoters International Sports Management said: “These announcements just demonstrate the depth of talent from across the globe that will be present at The Quinn Direct British Masters. Such a quality Asian representation confirming their attendance makes way for a very interesting contest.”

The Quinn Direct British Masters 2007 will be played from 20th – 23rd September 2007, including a Pro-Am day on 19th September.
