Howell & Westwood To Challenge For This Year’s Quinn Direct British Masters Title
Mon, 20 Mar 2006 - 02:23 GMT

Lee Westwood overlooks David Howell's putting options.
David Howell’s career went from strength to strength last season when, after two runners-up finishes in May, he captured his first European Tour title in six years in August. The Swindon born star started 2006 in style with another stunning success at the first European Tour event of the year and is currently ranked 1 in Europe and 14 in the world.
Lining up against him will be Worksop’s most famous resident and past Ryder Cup team mate, Lee Westwood, who with 27 professional victories to his name will surely be one of the leading contenders for the title.
Other past and present Ryder Cup stars already confirmed to take part in the event include Thomas Björn, Darren Clarke and Paul McGinley, with others looking set to join them from Thursday 11 to Sunday 14 May to compete for the £1.8 million prize fund.
David Howell said; “Over the past year I’ve grown as a player so I’m really confident about competing in The Quinn Direct British Masters. In 2005 I nearly clinched the title so hopefully 2006 will be my year.”
Lee Westwood said; “I’m really excited that the tournament has returned to The De Vere Belfry, as it’s such a great course and holds many good memories for me."
