Irish golf star Paul McGinley is to return to the scene of his finest hour and play in the Quinn Direct British Masters tournament in September.

McGinley’s name is synonymous with The Belfry having holed the winning putt on the 18th green of The Brabazon course in the 2002 Ryder Cup, creating iconic images that were broadcast around the world.

McGinley is hoping to build on his Open improvement at The Quinn Direct British Masters, where his challengers for the coveted title and £1.8million prize fund will include fellow British hope Lee Westwood.

“I’m now really looking forward to another UK tournament,” said Paul. “The atmosphere at The Belfry is always fantastic and the course a challenge. I aim to improve on my current position and rise in the rankings.”

The Quinn Direct British Masters in September will see the return of top level European Tour golf to The Belfry along with many of its biggest stars.
